Last month, children’s book illustrator Jeffrey Brown followed up his bestseller Darth Vader and Son with another instant hit, Vader’s Little Princess. This cute story takes a look at what fatherhood would be like for the Sith Lord if he was forced to raise a daughter who was a rebel – a fun play on words, since Leia was, in fact, a rebel.

Each page of this book shows young Leia as she grows older and the troubles Vader would have managing his daughter – from teaching her to fly a TIE fighter, to dressing appropriately and spending too much time talking with friends.

One of the funniest images is when she brings a boy home – instead of cleaning his gun at the kitchen table, as we’ve seen countless times in movies or television, he has Boba Fett standing menacingly in the background – who wouldn’t ensure their date was home on time if the most infamous bounty hunter in the galaxy was keeping tabs on your night out!

Hasbro Mystery Bags Series 2

Earlier this year Hasbro gave a first look at the characters being introduced in Series 2 of Angry Birds Star Wars mystery bags. Each mystery bag includes two miniatures, including characters like Han Solo, Princess Leia and Boba Fett.

Reports came in a few months ago that Series 2 had popped up overseas. These items have finally made their way to the U.S. I’ve been checking the toy aisle at retail stores and finally saw the new mystery bags appear at my local Target.

We’re still waiting for reports on the larger Boba Fett Power Battler, including a Han Solo target, to be spotted at local retail outlets.

Her Universe released its second design from the Dia de Muertos collection, featuring a design by Denise Vasquez. The tank top has a Latin feel to it and includes the line, “He’s No Good To Me Dead,” in stylistic print.

At the price of $20.50, this top arrives just in time for summer and is a great gift for your female Star Wars fan, girlfriend or spouse. While it’s only been available for about a week, it has sold out at Hot Topic retail stores, but is available at www.heruniverseshop.com.

Dark Side Design Contest

Last week, the winners of the Dark Side Design Contest were announced, including several winning tee-shirt designs featuring Boba Fett. This contest was opened in February and was an open call for all tee-shirt designers – who ended up winning some awesome prizes.

The grand prize winner was Aaron Davis, with his Boba Fett shirt design entitled, “No Place to Hide,” featuring a close up image of Boba Fett’s helmet, reflecting the shapes of Han Solo in Carbonite and the Millennium Falcon.

The judge’s pick was “Dark Side Fighter” by Drew Wise – an old 8-bit video game approach to his design. The front of the shirt copies the classic “choose your fighter” interface, pitting Darth Vader vs. Boba Fett.

Another top selection was “The Dark Side Diner” by Gary Jensen. This tee-shirt design illustrates Boba Fett and Darth Vader sitting in a diner, a classic diner slogan is scrawled near the bottom of the image. This is probably my personal favorite of the entry winners.

Cinco de Mayo

Yesterday was one of the most celebrated Star Wars Day I can remember, and the party continues today as people celebrate Cinco de Mayo.

The official Star Wars Blog released printable luchadores masks, featuring the faces of General Grievous, Darth Vader, Darth Maul and Boba Fett. Illustrated by artist Randy Martinez, you can print these out, apply them to some thin cardboard and have a blast!

USA Today continues its ongoing Star Wars features, leading up to Star Wars Day on May 4. Staff writer Brian Truitt interviewed actor Jeremy Bulloch, who shared memories of being onset for the filming of Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi.

Bulloch shared his initial thoughts on the Mandalorian armor, including worries of toppling over from the weight of Boba Fett’s jet pack. Also, how he approached the characteristics of the bounty hunter. Especially since his face was hidden, how he could use his training as an actor to convey the menace of the character.

Help Fund "Shadows of the Empire"

As of posting this blog, independent filmmaker Ethan Belden has raised nearly $1,000 through Kickstart toward his project of making a feature film adaptation of “Shadows of the Empire.” Belden and his team have 21 days to raise another $9,000 if the project hopes to get off the ground.

They plan to use majority practical effects, not too heavy on CGI – just as the original films had. The image to the right is not computer generated, but their example of what can be done with models and paintings in the background.

“Shadows” was the first Expanded Universe novel I read as a kid. To this day, it’s still one of the most, well-written stories in the Star Wars Universe and fits almost seamlessly in the Original Trilogy era. In the 1990s its success resulted in a smash hit video game for the Nintendo 64.

If you’re not familiar with the story, it takes place between Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi. One of the reasons I gravitated toward it, was the subplot of Luke, Leia and debut character Dash Rendar’s efforts to retrieving Han Solo after being encased in Carbonite.

The book fleshes out the troubles Boba Fett encountered, between rival bounty hunters and the rebels, in transporting his prisoner to Jabba’s Palace. The novel also introduced Black Sun and motivations that would influence much of what came after it in the Expanded Universe.

I recommend watching the video on the project’s Kickstarter page. This is no amateur project, these guys know what they’re doing and from what I’ve seen of development images – this film is beyond promising and worth the investment from fans. They tease the opening crawl, and prove what they can do with graphics in the video as well. The proposal is well thought out, and they tell you exactly how they plan to accomplish what they say they’re doing.

Also, all the money invested goes 100 percent toward technical and practical needs for the film – not toward actors or payroll. If you like what you see, then donate a few bucks and let’s see this project get off the ground.

'Dog' Advises Boba Fett

Dog the Bounty Hunter was interviewed last week by MTV during a promotional tour of his new show on CMT, “Dog & Beth: The Hunt.”

For some reason, he was asked to give advice on bounty hunting to Boba Fett – since there are rumors of a feature film spin-off for the Mandalorian.

This question seems out of left field to me. I got the impression he thought Boba Fett is an actual living person, who is being spotlighted in a new reality television show. At the very least - it’s obvious he’s not familiar with Boba Fetts mythos.

Here’s what he said:

“Be sure to know your prey. Be sure to know where he’s from, what he’s about, what his record is. Be sure you don’t go alone, have three or four people with you all the time and, may the Force be with you, because it will be.”

The British contortionist and magician Chris Cross made a proposition to Jeremy Bulloch, aka Boba Fett – Boba Fett would capture the performer, chain and padlock him, then Cross would have 90 seconds to escape.

All this would happen in front of a live audience on May 4 at Screen-Con at the Parks Leisure Centre in North Shields.

Bulloch accepted his challenge yesterday, according to Cross via Facebook. However, the escapologist also noted he’s awaiting final approval by the convention officials.

Cross has performed escapes at many public events and venues, including television shows like Greece’s Got Talent, The Tonight Show with Jay Leno and more.

If this event is approved and actually happens, The Boba Bounty invites any convention-goers to post send us pictures from the event.
